When we moved into our home a few years ago, we noticed that the family that lived behind us had a little girl around our son’s age. Little did we know during move in day that over the years we would have babies, go on vacation, celebrate happy hours, partner on countless play dates, install a gate between our yards, watch our kiddos grow closer, and become family.
When we moved to the area, we moved away from family. And, let me be the first to tell you that family means a lot to my husband and me. They always say it takes a village to raise a child. Add two kids to the mix and no family close by and we knew things were going to get a bit interesting. But, as always, we went with our motto: We will figure it out.
We could not be more grateful that our friends/neighbors have become our family over the years. From being there every step of the way, to stepping in at a moment’s notice, to loving and caring for our children as though they are their children, to making us feel included in their family events, there’s nothing like a friendship that turns into a feeling of family.
Recently, they had grandma in town visiting and asked me to take a few photographs in the backyard. After some outfit planning and a little persuasion about a change in location, we headed to one of my favorite spots in Frederick, Maryland. The perfect neutral outfits (yes, she knows how in love with neutrals I am), the cute smiles, the fun laughter, and the sweet moments … I couldn’t be more thankful for the joy this family brings to our lives. And it was so much fun capturing the joy that they have in their sweet family.
