In June, I hosted a giveaway on my Instagram account that was going to award one family with a free mini session gift card. After selecting a random winner, I shared emails with the mom of these super cute, sweet kiddos. I soon learned that this was going to be an incredibly special and heartwarming photo session.

Their 16-month-old girl had an incredibly hard start which made them spend almost a month in the Baltimore NICU. Due to the stress and time away from home, the family was never able to get photographs of their cutie pie as a newborn … in fact, they haven’t had any family photos at all since she was born.

The mom was hoping to win the giveaway so that she could capture a little of the lost time. Before the mini session took place, their little girl had a follow up appointment at the NICU and they found out that she’s doing so well. To them, the mini session felt like a celebration and bit of closure to it all.

As a photographer, I love capturing life’s special moments and milestones. I couldn’t have been more excited to photograph this family and their strong, brave little girl. And their son’s Batman impression was the icing on the cake. This photography session will always hold a special place in my heart.
